Our Commitment
Safety is a shared responsibility and must be integrated into planning, execution and review.
Guiding principle: No operational objective takes priority over taking reasonable steps to protect people from serious and preventable harm.
Purpose
JIL is committed to protecting the health, safety and well-being of employees, contractors, visitors and other people who may be affected by its activities. These guidelines establish basic expectations for identifying hazards, preventing harm and responding to workplace safety concerns.
Scope
These guidelines apply to JIL offices, training venues, events, project sites and other locations where the company exercises control or has relevant responsibilities. Additional site-specific procedures may be required for construction, transport, engineering, energy, industrial or other higher-risk activities.
Core Requirements
- Provide and maintain safe working arrangements in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Identify hazards and assess relevant workplace and project risks before and during activities.
- Apply appropriate controls to eliminate hazards where possible or reduce risks to an acceptable level.
- Provide suitable personal protective equipment where required and ensure personnel understand its proper use.
- Provide relevant safety information, instruction and training.
- Maintain appropriate emergency arrangements, including evacuation procedures and access to emergency assistance.
- Keep work areas orderly and equipment in safe working condition.
- Encourage prompt reporting of hazards, incidents and near-misses.
- Investigate significant incidents and implement corrective measures.
- Require contractors and partners to comply with relevant safety requirements applicable to their work.
Project-Specific Safety
Before undertaking activities with significant safety risks, the responsible project lead should ensure that appropriate risk assessments, competent personnel, permits, equipment, supervision and emergency arrangements are in place. Where specialist technical controls are required, qualified personnel should be engaged.
Incident Reporting
All personnel should promptly report injuries, unsafe conditions, near-misses and other safety concerns through the designated reporting channel. Immediate danger should be addressed without delay, including stopping unsafe work where necessary and arranging emergency assistance.
Responsibilities
Management provides oversight and appropriate resources. Supervisors and project leads communicate safety requirements and monitor compliance. Every individual is responsible for following applicable safety instructions and reporting hazards.
Review
Safety arrangements should be reviewed after significant incidents, material changes in work activities or identification of new risks. These guidelines will be reviewed at least annually.
